Jeff Goldblum
The king of cool and a style icon to many, Jeff is wearing a very confusing outfit. I can’t quite take it all. White bow tie with long ends, white evening scarf, white gloves, overcoat with metal buttons, orthopaedic looking shoes, two pairs of glasses, trio of brooches.. I know he’s got the personality to pull off things but this time it doesn’t work for me, it’s all a bit too much.
Jack Harlow
Not a dreadful idea as a concept -although debatable.. -, a dinner suit in an unconventional colour is not the easiest to pull off. I would recommend not using satin for the lapels as it’s extremely tough to find the right shade and consider wearing a pair of black trousers instead, to read more black tie. Oh and something essential, don’t forget your bow tie.
Tom Ford
Ruby velvet jacket, evening shirt with studs, self tie bow tie, white pocket square, white boutonniere, black trousers, patent oxfords, good proportions: this if how you dress for a party! Maybe take off the sunglasses for the night time.. Or keep them on to avoid the camera flashes.
Hugh Jackman
Another proof that classic black tie is always relevant when attending formal events such as galas. Yes it’s not the most exciting outfit when you compare it to what was worn in the evening -although I would argue that point! – but it works perfectly. The proportions are good, the dress shirt is worn with studs, the bow tie self tied, it ticks a lot of boxes. The suit could have been a bit more generous in fit, it all looks a bit small, the shoes could have been a more appropriate design and a white pocket square would have been beneficial but it is overall a good outfit!
Jeremy Strong
I wasn’t sure if I should include this one so I’ll keep it short. I’m not a fan of the all white look, especially when you wear a highly contrasting pair of shoes. The suit itself fits extremely well and is really nicely made. I wanted to bring up a point over noticed in a lot of the outfits this year: watches. I find it quite hard looking at red carpets and seeing watches at the forefront of outfits. A lot of people even awkwardly pose with their watches on, almost pulling back their sleeves to show off the pieces. Does anyone else struggle with that aspect of red carpets, being an advertising ground or is it just me?
Leon Bridges
Where to start? Is it black tie inspired? Definitely. Can anyone read his outfit without zooming at everything? No. This is clearly a lesson about when to stop accessorising. If you wonder if it’s already too much, it’s because it is!
Jonathan Bailey
An off white double breasted jacket with notch lapel in contrasting black satin. That really hurts to write down. It hurts the eyes too. I know it fits the theme but the flowers are really distracting. The shoes look comfortable but really out of place. This leaves me very confused.
Matt Damon
A classic black tie look with a single breasted dinner suit, concealed pallet placket shirt, black shoes. The proportions of the suit seem completely off, the peak lapels are the narrowest I’ve seen, the shoes are extremely heavy and the sleeves could be shorter. The choice of wing collar is a bit odd, especially with such a flimsy pre-not-tied bow tie.
Jude Law
Handsome as always, Jude Law wears a classic dinner suit with the right proportions and styling, the concealed placket shirt works perfectly too. I only wish he would switch that bow tie for something with a bit more life, it’s a bit flat! Also, switch that black pocket square for a white one. Apart from that, 10/10 for classic!
Josh O’Connor
I don’t even know where to start. Maybe the most obvious, the shoes, what an odd choice for a black suit. Second, that coat, it seems very theatrical and costume, I’m not too sure what is happening. That shirt with a tiny wing collar? The mini diamond bow? Where do I stop? 🤯
Jon Batiste
A black tie outfit with a contrasting silk waistcoat, although this is not something I would wear, I know there is an audience for it and it had its own charm. It’s a shame he’s not wearing a black bow tie as it is definitely lacking the contrast.
Omar Apollo
Clown shoes, check. Sparkly watch exposed, check. Bow tie missing, check. Insane lapels, check. Someone get him a new stylist!
Leonardo Del Vecchio
This is a great example of dressing up for the location you’re at. The mix of the rust coloured dinner suit, the Belgian loafers and the sunnies really shout the Italian coastline, not the Met Gala in NYC. Also the lack of bow tie when going into the effort of wearing such a dinner suit is beyond me.
